Perris Auto Speedway Hosts the World of Outlaw Sprints in their final appearance on the West Coast in their 2007 season.

STORY BY:  Gaye Carmichael

(Perris,CA, 10/20/07)  Flash bulbs from active cameras lit up the Grandstands as some of the World's best sprint car drivers gave their four abreast salute to the fans in their final 2007 season on the West Coast and then proceeded to prove their talent with Kerry Madsen of St. Mary's, New South Wales, racing a hard charging perfect run, leading all laps of this thirty lap feature, driving the Helm/Selma Shell 11H sprint, through open track and heavy traffic,  scoring the $10,000. victory in World of Outlaw Sprint Competition at Perris Auto Speedway, in Perris, CA.

For Madsen, it was a stellar night, timing in sixth fast, scoring a second place in his heat race, wining the Dash and then the big win in the WoO Sprint seventy-third feature event of the season.  This was especially a great win for Madsen, who was racing this Perris half mile track for the first time and scoring his second WoO Sprint victory in the 2007 season, the first win earned in February, during the Dirt Car Nationals.

"We're pretty happy.  I was having a ball.  I'm so happy to win for the Helm Family.  We ran the good part of the track tonight and I knew if I didn't make too many mistakes, I'd be all right. It paid to be up front tonight.  I'm just so excited to get another win.  It's really a happy day." said, a very excited, happy Madsen, who's  smile said it all.

Another great performance was given by Danny Lasoski, of Dover, MO,  racing in the Dennis Roth #83 Sprint,  Coming from a victory at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, AZ, just the night before, Lasoski, racing from an eighth starting berth, battled Donny Schatz (ND) for third and with eight laps to go, won the bid.  Next in line, was Washington's Jason Solwold, racing the Carnahan #R19, who was chasing Madsen.  Solwold raced into second place on the first lap, pouring on the speed as he roared behind Madsen, lap after lap.  With just two laps to go, Lasoski, chose the fastest grove and dove into second, Solwold made a great effort to rally back into second but would take the final lap in third.

Lasoski, a driver of few words, said, "It was good to have traffic.  I got by Donny (Schatz) racing the high side. We were really good tonight."

As you approached Solwold, you could see the disappointment on his face.  Solwold had raced almost a flawless race, as he looked to get to the front.  With a tenth fast time in qualifying, winning his heat race, scoring in second in the Dash. Solwold was eager in his efforts to get to the front.

"We should have won that, just like last night. (Referring to the Manzanita race, the night before, Solwold had a huge lead with four laps top go when his right rear tire, just exploded.)  I was racing the high side and hoped we would get into traffic sooner. I have never been better than I was tonight, so that was an improvement for me." said Solwold.

Talking with one of Solwold's crew members, Marie Lapointe, Marie said, "Third is good.  It's a good solid finish. The track was pretty exciting.  The Heat Races were the best I've seen in a long time. We're running in the top ten in points and our crew is happy.

The track was still sticky at the conclusion of the race, which definitely contributed to the great racing and to having only two yellow flags during the race. Each were individual incidents.  The first flag flew out when Ohio's Jac Haudenschild, had battle with the back stretch wall and the wall won.  Haudenschild and his team have been struggling with qualifying and tonight, Haudenschild timed in eleventh quick, the best he's been able to have for awhile. He back that up with winning his heat race, raced up three positions to finish fifth in the Dash and was racing the rim in the feature, when he broke the torque tube, when he hit the wall.

The second caution flew out when Jeremy Campbell of Monroe, MI, was racing in the top ten, cut a rear tire, as he raced the back stretch and then stopped in the fourth turn, with just three laps to go.

"The car was running good. I was racing through traffic, using the outside line, so I think I may have gotten into some debris, left from when Haudenschild hit the wall." said Campbell.

All of the drivers in this feature, raced their heart out, including the two drivers who used provisional's, to make the race, Tony Bruce, Jr. (KS) and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (TX).

When the checkered flag flew, finishing behind, Madsen, Lasoski and Solwold were, Schatz, Jason Meyers (CA), Paul McMahan (TN), Craig Dollansky (MN) (Dollansky won the Hard Charger award, having started the race seventeenth and scoring this seventh place finish. Dollansky won the "B" Main, to earn a transfer into the "A" feature.),   Joey Saldana (IN), Steve Kinser (IN), Daryn Pittman (OK), Shane Stewart (OK), Chad Kemenah (OH), Tim Shaffer (PA), Jason Sides (TN), Jason Allard (CA), Randy Hannagan (CA), Hafertepe, Jr., Johnny Herrera (NM), Terry McCarl (IA), Bruce, Jr., Tim Kaeding (CA), Justin Henderson (SD), Brandon Wimmer (IN), Chad Hillier (WA), Campbell and Haudenschild.

"B" Main, Dash and Heat race finishes, are as follows:

"B" Main:  Dolllansky, Hillier, Wimmer, Herrera, Greg DeCaires (CA), Hafertepe, Jr., Bruce, Jr., Kyle Larson (CA), Brooke Tatnell (NSW), Ben Gregg (AZ), Mike Mossi (CA), Brent Kronfuss (MT).

Dash:  Madsen, Solwold, McMahan, Meyers, Haudenschild, Schatz, Saldana, Lasoski, Kemenah, Stewart.

Heat #1:  Meyers, McMahan, Lasoski, Kinser, Kaeding, Dollansky, Tatnell, Herrera.

Heat #2:  Solwold, Madsen, Henderson, Saldana, Campbell, Wimmer, Larson, Gregg.

Heat #3:  Haudenschild, Stewart, Sides, Pittman, Shaffer, DeCaires, Hafertepe, Jr., Kronfuss.

Heat #4:  Schatz, Kemenah, Hannagan, Allard, McCarl, Hillier, Bruce, Jr., Mossi.

World of Outlaw Sprint Competition at the Manzanita Speedway, half mile dirt oval in Phoenix, AZ

Story by:  Gaye Carmichael

(Phoenix,AZ, 10/19/07)  Danny Lasoski of Dover, MO, scored his sixth victory of the 2007 World of Outlaw Sprint season, racing the Dennis Roth #83 Sprint to the checkered flag of the the thirty-lap "A" Feature event at the half mile oval at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, AZ,  taking home the $10,000. win.  This was Lasoski's second victory on this awesome dirt oval and Lasoski said, "The car was rolling around here pretty good tonight.  Anytime you put us on a half-mile track with Dennis (Roth, the #83 Car Owner) this car runs good.  When Solwold (Jason) caught me there I thought I was done.  I hurt the motor on the eleventh lap, losing a cylinder.  The car ran pretty good on just seven cylinders.  The track was really good."

Lasoski, racing from a pole start, raced into the lead of the feature as the initial green flag fell.  Indiana's Steve Kinser roared into second place on the second lap and then chased Lasoski down, to make a pass into first, on the third lap, only to lose his position when he spun out in the second turn. Lasoski would score  the first nineteen laps at the point.  Washington's Jason Solwold from an eighth place start moved into second place on the third lap and began his chase to overtake Lasoski for the lead.  It took seventeen laps to do it, but Solwold poured on the gas as he raced into the lead and then preceded to pull away from Lasoski.  With four laps to go, Solwold, who looked to be running away from the field and on his way to victory, had a right rear tire go down, coming out of the second turn.  Solwold did not return to the race and Lasoski had his lead back once more.  It goes to show that the third time was the charm.

With five laps to go, Donny Schatz of Fargo, NC, took over the second spot and began a campaign on Lasoski.  Racing every angle of the track, trying to take the lead, Schatz ran out of time and finished in second.

"Our car is always set up for the last laps.  The track was good to move around on tonight.  Danny (Lasoski), had an open race track in front of him and only five laps to go, making it very tough to catch him.   I tried the middle, top and the bottom of the track and my speed seemed the same all over.  Our car was really good at the end." said Schatz.  Schatz started the race in thirteenth and had a little help from Kinser, Jason Sides of Bartlett, TN and Solwold, three of the top ten drivers who brought out the yellow flags that lost them their positions.  Sides had some kind of mechanical problem that sidelined him from the event.  Sides had been racing in fifth at the time.

Justin Henderson  of Sioux Falls, SD, qualified into a front row starting berth, in second place.  Henderson raced all thirty laps in third to take the final podium finish.

"This is another top three finish for us and we now have two of them.  We're always good at Manzy (Manzanita Speedway), it's one of our favorite tracks." said Henderson.

With only three cautions marring the race, this event was exciting as the drivers drove full throttle around the track.  Adding to this excitement, were the two last place starters in this twenty-four sprint field.  Ohio's Jack Haudenschild and Oklahoma's Shane Stewart.  Stewart started in twenty-fourth and scored a tenth place finish.  Haudenschild started in twenty-third and finished in eighth.  Haudenschild won the KSE Racing Products Hard Chargers award. to put him at the top of the list of drivers who've worked extremely hard for their finishes.

"The track was really good.  We're just having trouble getting in a good qualifying effort.  I just don't know.  The car was great.  It felt good in the feature.  It's still hard to get up there on a track like this (referring to the high speeds and half mile distance).  The track was  beautiful, you could run the top or the bottom.  We needed this." said Haudenschild.

Kinser, who has scored nine victories on this half mile, must of felt huge disappointment when the opportunity to have a tenth victory slipped away early on in this race when he spun.  In spite of that Kinser tagged the rear of the field and fought his way back up through the field, passing thirteen drivers to earn his eleventh place finish.

Solwold clocked in a 15.412 second lap to set fast time out of the thirty-three sprints that turned out.

Oklahoma's Daryn Pittman raced from an eleventh place start to finish in fourth, followed by Joey Saldana (IN), Craig Dollansky (MN), Jason Meyers (CA), Haudenschild, Kerry Madsen (NSW), Stewart, Kinser, Tony Bruce, Jr. (KS), Tim Shaffer (PA), Johnny Herrera (NM), Terry McCarl (IA), Chad Kemenah (OH), Paul McMahan (TN), Randy Hannagan (CA), Ben Gregg (AZ), Brandon Wimmer (IN), Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (TX), Solwold, Jeremy Campbell (MI) and Sides.

The "B" Main, the Dash and the Heat Race finishes, as as follows:

"B" Main:  Campbell, Hannagan, Henderson, Shaffer, Chad Hillier (WA), Dion Hindi (NM), Jonathan Allard (CA), Greg DeCaires (CA), Brent Kronfuss (MT), Kyle Larson (CA), Brooke Tatnell (NSW). Steve Stone (AZ), Chuck Buckman (AZ).  (Four transferred to the "A" Feature.  Buckman did not start the race.)

Dash:  Lasoski, Henderson, Bruce, Jr., Kinser, Dollansky, Sides, Madsen, Solwold, Meyers, Solwold.

Heat #1:  Madsen, Henderson, Solwold, Wimmer, Herrera, Hillier, Tatnell, DeCaires, Buckman.

Heat #2:  Sides, Dollansky, Schatz, Saldana. McCarl, Hannagan, Allard, Kronfuss.

Heat #3:  Kinser, Meyers, Kemenah, Haudenschild, Gregg. Larson, Campbell, Shaffer.

Heat #4:  Bruce, Jr., Lasoski, Pittman, Hafertepe, Jr., McMahan, Stewart, Hindi, Stone.

(The two top finishers of the Heat races, earned a place in the Dash along with two of the top qualifiers from the time trials.  Top five earn a start in the "A" Feature.)
